McCartney to release unheard Beatles song

Sir Paul McCartney has confirmed the existence of an unheard Beatles song.

Speaking to BBC Radio 4's Front Row, McCartney said that he hopes to release the 14-minute track 'Carnival Of Light' soon.

He said: "I like it because it's The Beatles free, going off piste."

The track, an improvised jam, was recorded for an electronic music festival at London's Abbey Road studios in 1967.

He added: "I said all I want you to do is just wander around all the stuff, bang it, shout, play it, it doesn't need to make any sense. Hit a drum then wander on to the piano, hit a few notes, just wander around.

"So that's what we did and then put a bit of an echo on it. It's very free."

McCartney had wanted to include 'Carnival Of Light' on a mid-'90s Beatles compilation but was vetoed by the other members of the band.
