Bandaged: 'Little Drummer Boy/Peace On Earth'

The annual deluge of novelty songs has come to be as much a part of Christmas as the turkey and trimmings. Some offerings, such as those from Mr. Blobby or Bob The Builder, may leave you choking on a mince pie, but the odd few – Gary Jules, Cliff perhaps – have warmed the nation's hearts quicker than Granny's mulled wine. So when Terry Wogan and Aled Jones teamed up for this Children In Need single, the results could have gone either way.

Thankfully, 'Little Drummer Boy' is a pleasant surprise, bearing all the hallmarks of the perfect Christmas novelty record. Jones's voice never fails to get you in the festive mood, but it's Wogan who gives this an extra special spark. Sounding just like your dad singing along after a hearty Christmas dinner, his "pa-rum-pum-pum-pums" are strangely infectious. Together they set the Christmas mood nicely - and considering it's for all charity, you'd be a bit of a scrooge not to find this all rather heartwarming.
