Black Eyed Peas and Scissor Sisters are among the bands taking part in a global New Year's celebration later this month.

The event, being put on by Nokia, will see five New Year's parties across the world at their respective New Year's times. The event will "travel" from east to west, starting in Hong Kong, before ending in New York.

The Scissor Sisters will play the Berlin leg of the celebration, while the Black Eyed Peas will play in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Nelly Furtado has also been confirmed to play at the Mumbai party.

The gigs will all be streamed over the Internet, as well as via mobile phones. Black Eyed Peas Will.I.Am said: “It's great to take part in this event because one we love Brazil, two because we'll be in Brazil, three because Brazil is a great place to bring in the New Year, four because Brazil's scenery is beautiful and five it's the New Year."

Scissor Sister's frontman Jake Shears added: "We're damn thrilled to be playing Nokia's world wide music party. It should be a helluva good time."
