Morrissey has changed record labels and signed with Decca under a new deal that will see him release new material next year.

The musician will release a greatest hits album under the new label in February, along with two new songs, following a sold-out six-date run of concerts in London in January.

The former Smiths singer said he was "very excited" about the new signing and is currently working on his new album in Los Angeles to be released in autumn 2008.

Managing director of Decca, Bogdan Roscic, said: "Not so many artists can look back on more than 25 years at the top of their game, staying as credible, creative and relevant as on the first day.

"From the recent performances and the new material, I know 2008 is going to be a stellar year for Morrissey, and we are very proud he is now a Decca artist."

Morrissey has had a successful solo career since The Smiths disbanded in 1987. His last album The Ringleader of the Tormentors reached number one in the UK last year under his former label Attack.
