Foo Fighters: 'Long Road To Ruin'

After the full throttle rock assault of 'The Pretender', the Foo Fighters have calmed their passions for the second single from their Echoes, Silence, Patience and Grace album. 'Long Road To Ruin' is a mid-tempo rock stomper with no, we repeat, no, quiet-loud-quiet-LOUDER! shifts in dynamic.

This isn't to say that the Foos have lost any of their awesome power: Taylor Hawkins continues to drum like a demon; Chris Shiflett manages to find space for a widdly-widdly guitar solo and the whole thing features more distortion than the reception on a 1930s wireless. Meanwhile, the slight change of pace gives Dave Grohl the chance to ease off his larynx and turn in a surprisingly sensitive vocal performance. Best of all, like your Aunt Sheila on a big Saturday night out, this tune's made a decent stab at glamming itself up a bit.
