The band's been together for quite some time. Can you tell us a bit about the band's history?
"We've been together since high school and playing together for about four or five years now. We were signed in Denmark three years ago and our debut album was released out there in March. We toured around Denmark after that and now we've moved to the UK because we're signed to EMI. This is the next step."
There was apparently a bidding war between record labels to sign you. What did you think about that?
"We were very honoured. We had no idea about it all. We played a showcase in May and everyone from the industry was there. It was kind of surreal, but it was a good kind of surreal. We knew we had something good going on. The interest was good and we were very glad of that."
You've just started touring some small venues around the UK. How's it going?
"The audience is very good - it's like starting again. Not many people know who we are, but it's going really well. We're trying to be a surprise to the audience, but hopefully it turns out to be a good surprise! It's all about playing small venues, getting an audience and trying to get people spreading the work. It has been really great actually."
How would you describe Alphabeat's music?
"It's 'pop' with a capital 'P' I think. It's influenced by Nile Rodgers' production work with a twist of B-52's, but it's very modern at the same time. We've been working with producer Mike Spencer on the new things. He's done stuff with Kylie and Jamiroquai, so he's given it more of a funky edge. It's pop music with lots of influences from the good pop days."
Scandinavia always seems to produce great pop groups. Any idea why?
"I only think we've had Aqua from Denmark, but Scandinavia's had a good pop tradition since ABBA. When ABBA came through to Europe, people found out that we were quite good at writing pop songs. I think we're keen on writing songs with good melodies. That's our goal when we write music."
Growing up in Denmark, did you listen to many British bands?
"In the nineties we were listening to the whole Britpop thing with Oasis and Blur - all things like that. Now we like all sorts of things from Klaxons to Libertines. Lots of great things have come out of Britain in recent years."
What can we expect from your album?
"Well, it's not going to sound like any of the things I just mentioned! Hopefully it will be the album you put on when you're going to throw a massive party in your house - great pop music with an edge. It will make you smile when it's raining outside. That's good because it's always raining in England!"
Are you pleased with the reaction towards your new single 'Fantastic Six'? It's got great reviews across the board.
"We've been pleased with the reaction and it's been a song people really like when we play live. The disco vibe is something that makes people look up and say 'What's going on here?'"
What' the song actually about?
"It's all about superheroes, but it's also about us. It has a bit of an ironic text, but it's a song about indicating who we are and having fun with that, by comparing us to superheroes."
