The veteran rock singer revealed that he has been talking to his brother Dave and bassist Pete Quaife about making music together again.
Dave suffered a stroke in 2004 while Quaife suffers from kidney problems, but Davies is still keen to see what would happen if they worked as a band again.
He told the Daily Mail: "I spoke to Quaife about a month ago and he dearly wants to make another record with me.
"I think Dave's getting better and [drummer] Mick [Avory] is still playing. It would be great to get back together just to see what musical ideas we had and what would happen."
The Kinks last performed together in 1996 and have a box set entitled Retrospective coming out later this year.
The band formed in 1963 and released hits such as 'Waterloo Sunset', 'Lola' and 'You Really Got Me'.
