The solo star said that record companies' influence over who wins the accolades was too strong and argued the ceremony was "tainted".
Brit Awards nominations are chosen by the Brits Academy, which is made up of journalists, managers, record label staff and industry workers.
Duckworth told The Sun: "I used to think they were absolutely amazing. But then I found out how the nominations take place and that it’s all voted for by record companies and then you think, 'Well, what’s the point?'.
"Whatever label has the most employees and the biggest reach will get the most nominations.
"I’m not going to mention any names but if you know who the largest label in England is at the moment and count how many nominations they’ve got this year - that makes pretty interesting reading.
"It doesn’t have that lustre of independent bands breaking through that it did have a little time ago. Where are the awards that are voted for by the fans?"
However, the indie star admitted that if he was ever nominated for a gong, he would definitely attend the ceremony.
He added: "If I was nominated I’d be stoked and would go and get drunk for free and hang out with celebrities."
