British Male Solo Artist

Nominated: Jamie T, Mark Ronson, Mika, Newton Faulkner and Richard Hawley

Our prediction: Mika's the obvious choice, but Mark Ronson, an artist who helped to define the sound of 2007, makes a more deserving winner.

British Female Solo Artist

Nominated: Bat For Lashes, Kate Nash, KT Tunstall, Leona Lewis and PJ Harvey

Our prediction: Both PJ Harvey and KT Tunstall have won this award in the past, but this year's battle is between Kate Nash, the trendiest in the category, and Leona Lewis, the most popular. Our money's on Lewis, a British artist who seems to be taking over the world territory by territory.

British Group

Nominated: Arctic Monkeys, Editors, Girls Aloud, Kaiser Chiefs and Take That

Our prediction: This award has been won by a guitar or piano-based rock act every year since 1995, but neither the Kaisers nor the Monkeys have had their best year, meaning Take That should sneak it. A Girls Aloud victory, however pleasing, would be the shock of the evening.

British Album

Nominated: Arctic Monkeys for 'Favourite Worst Nightmare', Leona Lewis for 'Spirit', Mark Ronson for 'Version', Mika for 'Life In Cartoon Motion' and Take That for 'Beautiful World'

Our prediction: Rock albums have dominated this award in the past, with Arctic Monkeys, Coldplay and Keane collecting the last three gongs, but this year's bias towards pop LPs gives Take That and Mika a decent shot. It's a close call, but we reckon Arctic Monkeys will triumph with Favourite Worst Nightmare.

British Breakthrough Act

Nominated: Bat For Lashes, Kate Nash, Klaxons, Leona Lewis and Mika

Our prediction: The winner of this award is chosen by Radio 1 listeners, so Klaxons - a band so hip even Jo Whiley will admit to liking them - are the most likely victors.

British Live Act

Nominated: Arctic Monkeys, Kaiser Chiefs, Klaxons, Muse and Take That

Our prediction: Muse have won this award twice in the last three years. There's little to suggest they aren't capable of nabbing it again.

British Single

Nominated: The Hoosiers for 'Worried About Ray', Leona Lewis for 'Bleeding Love', Mark Ronson and Amy Winehouse for 'Valerie', Mika for 'Grace Kelly' and Take That for 'Shine'

Our prediction: Chosen by commercial radio listeners and The Sun readers, this award should reflect the most popular single of the last 12 months. With that in mind, Leona Lewis' 'Bleeding Love', the best-selling single of 2007, is the most likely victor.

International Male

Nominated: Bruce Springsteen, Kanye West, Michael Bublé, Rufus Wainwright, Timbaland

Our prediction: Kanye West shouldn't be counted out, but 2007 was very much the year of master beatsmith Timbaland.

International Female Solo Artist

Nominated: Alicia Keys, Bjork, Feist, Kylie Minogue and Rihanna

Our prediction: Kylie could benefit from the sentimental vote, but, thanks to her recent run of brilliant singles, Rihanna makes the most deserving winner.

International Group

Nominated: Arcade Fire, Eagles, Foo Fighters, Kings of Leon and White Stripes

Our prediction: Arcade Fire and White Stripes are more fashionable, but the Brits Academy will probably want to make amends for ignoring Foo Fighters in the past.

International Album

Nominated: Arcade Fire for 'Neon Bible', Eagles for 'Long Road out of Eden', Foo Fighters for 'Echoes, Silence, Patience & Grace', Kings of Leon for 'Because of the Times' and Kylie Minogue for 'X'

Our tip: Kylie's won this award in the past, but her X album is too patchy to mount a serious challenge. The main battle is between Arcade Fire and Foo Fighters, with Dave Grohl and co. likely to sneak it for Echoes, Patience, Silence, Patience & Grace.
