The Police announce final Ireland gig

The Police have announced the details of their last ever gig in Ireland.

Sting's veteran rockers will play to an audience of 35,000 at the Stormont estate on June 20.

Artists including The Eagles and Elton John have played the historic venue in the past. The concerts were held at the venue as part of the Northern Ireland peace process and were organised by the late Mo Mowlam.

Gigs haven't been held at the estate in recent years due to cost difficulties.

Northern Ireland First Minister the Reverend Ian Paisley said: "An event of this magnitude has a sizeable benefit for the economy, not least our tourism industry.

"The beautiful grounds of the Stormont Estate are a fantastic venue for this event and it is fitting that they should be used by the public in this way."

Paisley described the The Police as a "fantastic coup" for the country.

The Police, who reformed in 2007, will also headline this year's Isle of Wight Festival. Their last UK gig is expected to take place at Hyde Park on June 29.
