Gnarls Barkley: 'Run'

Despite selling more than three million copies of their debut album, Gnarls Barkley are perceived by many to be a one-song act. Why? Because the record-breaking success of 'Crazy', the first single to top the charts on downloads alone, comprehensively overshadowed subsequent releases from their impressive St. Elsewhere LP. Sometimes, it seems, a song can get too big.

'Run', the lead single from their sophomore album The Odd Couple, might have enough to remedy this injustice. A frantic, psychedelic slice of sixties-inspired gospel-pop, it boasts more hooks than the picture-hanging department at Harrods. Its radio appeal notwithstanding, it makes for a surprisingly creepy listen, especially when Cee-Lo starts shrieking "Run children! Run for your life!" towards the end. 'Crazy' it ain't, but it sure is mad.
