Keyboard player Tim Rice-Oxley said that the indie rockers won't be restricted by "musical etiquette" on their third LP.
Writing on the band's official website, he said: "We’ve agreed that the more tasteless and uncool we make our music, the better.
"Only when you lose the fear of breaking the unwritten rules of musical etiquette can you make a really great album."
Speaking about the record's sound, he commented: "One of the new songs sounds like 'Magic Dance' from the Labyrinth soundtrack."
The release will be Keane's first studio album since 2006's Under The Iron Sea.
