Black Kids: 'I'm Not Gonna Teach Your Boyfriend...'

When Black Kids posted their demo EP on MySpace last August, they couldn't have anticipated the excitement their kaleidoscopic mixture of pop, new wave and dance would create. With fashionistas around the world clamouring for further offerings from the Florida five-piece (featuring the fantastically-named frontman, Reggie Youngblood), the band have teasingly opted not to rush out new material, instead choosing to reissue one of the EP's finest moments.

Everything except the tongue-twisting title - 'I'm Not Gonna Teach Your Boyfriend How To Dance With You', what a mouthful! - is pristinely-executed, with lo-fi production values and plenty of effortless, minimalist cool. Youngblood's breathy vocals exude sexual tension as he sings: "You're biting my tongue. I'm kissin' on you. Is he better than me?" When combined with Go Team!-style backing vocals, a truck-load of buzzing synths and tetchy drum breakdowns, we're left with a dreamy and irresistible concoction - one that easily matches the band's hype. With splendid B-sides to boot, Black Kids look like they could be a little bit special.
