Jack McManus: 'Bang On The Piano'

Following in the footsteps of Adele, Amy, Kate, Leona et al. comes another Brit School grad with multi-platinum potential. Jack McManus, a 23-year-old piano-basher from Bromley who looks like a younger, slimmer, less bear-like Rory McGrath, grew up on a diet of Elton John and Billy Joel. And boy does it show.

'Bang On The Piano', his debut single, is as radio-friendly as a government decree banning everyone from watching the telly. A relentlessly chipper parade of pop hooks, with a chorus that invades the brain like a belligerent virus, it's one of the catchiest tunes of the year so far. Though at present it sounds utterly joyous - check out those 'Bohemian Like You'-style "wooh-ooh-ooh"s! - we may feel very differently in a few months' time.
