How did you get into music?
Brit: "Well, we're twins so we've been singing together all our lives. We always knew that we wanted to do music but we never really had any connections. We kinda fell into modelling as a fluke and we ended up doing the John Frieda Sheer Blonde hair commercial. As much as we kinda cringe about it now, it did help us because we were singing in it and labels started calling us. It opened doors for us."
Do you still get recognised from the advert?
Brit: "Yes, we still do! It's the craziest thing that people still come up to us and sing 'Are You Ready?'"
Do you feel pressure to have lovely, glossy hair all the time?
Alex: "Yeah, totally! We have to put a hat on any time our hair's not looking its best. We never know who's going to recognise us that day!"
Did you always want to make music as a duo?
Brit: "We were always set on doing this together, really! We've been doing talent shows together since we were five or six, so it was never something we wouldn't have done together."
What's the Brit and Alex sound?
Brit: "Actually, (our producer) Dallas Austin described it as melting pot. We grew up listening to everyone from Michael Jackson to Prince to Aretha Franklin, and all our influences have come through in our music. It's not straight pop, it's not straight R&B, it's a bit of everything."
Alex: "Making our album in Atlanta has definitely given it an urban feel. There are some really good beats and fun songs you want to put on before you go out, and also some empowering songs for girls."
Brit: "There are also a few ballads that make you feel something, we hope."
What inspired your new single 'Let It Go'?
Brit: "Well, it's the song we relate to most at the moment. We've had all these people around us telling us who we should be and what songs we should put out, what we can do and what we can't do, and this is about us saying, 'You know what? We're gonna be who we are'."
Alex: "It's really about letting go of all your inhibitions."
You started your career on an American soap. Do you have any plans to return to acting?
Brit: "Yes, we did. For about a year we played Baby Jessica on a show called One Life To Live. We both played the same character - we shared the role because we were so young."
Alex: "But for now it's all about music really. That's what we're focusing on at the moment."

Alex: "We've known her actually since we were about four years old. She's a friend of the family and she's been like an aunt to us over the years."
Brit: "She's been great through the whole thing - very supportive. She's advised us on all different things: songs, our band, how to deal with everything in the business."
Alex: "It's amazing that she's remained so normal after so many years in the business, and that's inspiring for us. She's still a very nice person so she's a great role model for us to look up to."
