Jay Sean: 'Maybe'

He's often overlooked in favour of newer, hipper urban stars, but there's no denying the loyalty of Jay Sean's fanbase. After a three year chart absence, and with precious little airplay, the British Asian R&B singer very nearly cracked the top ten with 'Ride It' back in January, stalling at number eleven. So near, yet so far, eh?

'Maybe', his follow-up single, is a slushy R&B ballad in the Ne-Yo/Mario vein. With its souped-up bassline, sugary chorus and twinkly, eighties-style keyboards, it's sure to sound great booming out of a BMW convertible on a scorching summer's day. Sadly for Sean, this isn't quite enough. Though well-crafted in a 2004 kinda way, 'Maybe' sounds a tiny bit dull next to the gleamingly modern British R&B being made by Taio Cruz at the moment.
