Hot Chip: 'One Pure Thought'

Hot Chip's ability to fuse imaginative, adventurous electronic music with winning pop melodies is always impressive, making their recent chart breakthrough with 'Ready For The Floor' both thoroughly deserved and long overdue. Sadly, follow-up tune 'One Pure Thought' seems unlikely to match 'Floor's top ten success.

Not that it's a bad song, of course - just a rather eccentric one. An unmistakably Hot Chip concoction of rock guitar riffs, electro atmospherics and digital calypso rhythms, it's all held together by a lovely, swirling melody that's reminiscent of vintage New Order. Alexis Taylor's choirboy vocals, meanwhile, continue to be almost impossibly charming. If you like your electropop to recall Su Pollard's dress sense - bold and unfailingly quirky - you won’t be disappointed.
