Yet another fantastic album by the most successful female recording artist in history. Her record breaking world tour has helped to ensure that this is one of the Top 10 biggest selling albums of the year worldwide and rightly so. It's packed full of catchy pop songs (as highlighted in the review above) and proves that even at 50, Madonna is definitely a force to be reckoned with. The naysayers have been proven wrong yet again.

I'am sure that the album seems to be excellent

i 'm sure the album's vey good.... however i'm 12 and like her 80's stuff better. what's wrong with madge theses days? she's a 50 year old acting like a 20 year old. i can't imagtion a world without madonna but she need to be sexy more suttle and naturally than acting like wannabe in a leotard dancing like one of 50 cent's video girls next to justin timberlake. He looks like her son rather than some one featuring on her track. madonna don't try to be something your not...... age gracefully with your music and pride not your great body and leotard.

An appalling album by a very sad individual who reached her sell by date a LONG time ago.

One of the worst albums ever! How could someone so creative and brilliant create such crap! I am a huge fan of hers, but this does not engage me. 4 minutes makes no sense at all. It is flat and over-simplified. She is now becoming irrelevant and tired.

horrible

The PUBLIC has voted with its feet and all the fantics here are shown in their true delusionary madness. After only a MONTH on sale this CAR CRASH of an album is nearly OUT of the TOP 30 already, WAY eclipsing AL as her most despised, unpopular and career destroying flop especially as a follow up, piggy backing on the incredible success of her last album, COADF. Like AL it is far too long gone to be saved by any future single release. On the positive side her obssesion with (continuing) her fame above all else eg credibility *FLUSH* (i've seen better lyrics by a 2 year old than on this album for gods sake - yet still her loons worship her as if she was shakespere) was bound to kill her career sooner rather than later despite her endless hypocritical denials of that fact. The album's artwork including her styling is GROTESQUE enough to put anyone off buying the thing before they even get chnace to listen to the contained 'complementry' audio. WHAT a TRAGIC way to go - now a universilly derided sad satirical figure of a once great Pop star - RIP Mads.

An amazing album (once again) from the Queen. I has hints of RnB on it, but this is definitely a MADONNA album. I love it!!.

OMG am i the only person that thinks 4 minutes is utter rubbish, from the annoying way JT says ''madonna'' to the ''tick-tock'' she finds necessary to repeat? ARGHHHH! I love madonna but i hate this new style, it doesn't suit her...& i've seen her cellulite while performing in that horrid leotard! There is little originality left in music these days & none in her!!
Nick, London on May 20th, 2008
I just can't believe how terrible this album is. It is derivative nonsense from someone who has, in the past, been a trail-blazer. What happened? She panicked. She may claim not to care but it's all about popularity and acceptance with Madonna.
Ste, Essex on May 13th, 2008
4 minutes to listen to the album... one track, rest crap....

her best cd yet love it

I have been a Madonna fan since the very beginning. To me this record actually reminds me of the old style Madonna that I missed so much. Fun and fresh. Love the bells that the songs incorporate, that was her touch and the harmonies and interjections on the chorus lines. Brilliant!!!! Madonna you still are the Queen of POP!!!
QB on May 7th, 2008
Didn't like it at first - took me a few listens and I now like two thirds of it - there a couple of potentially great songs which are ruined by tired, old Timbaland productions. I hope she does something innovative and wows us again with her next album.
Michael, Glasgow on May 6th, 2008
Brillant, everyone just confess that you love her!!
Aya, Malaysia on May 6th, 2008
A fact- Madonna is the best selling female artist of all time 263 million records and keep on going. Hard Candy is probably one of her best album to date after Ray of Light and Confession On A Dance Floor. It is fresh, edgy but still sound like Madonna. Hard Candy is technically well-produced. Recommended downloads are: 1) 4 Minutes 2) Give It 2 Me 3) Miles Away 4) Beat Goes On 5) Incredible 6) Devil Wouldnt Recognized You

Give It 2 Me sounds like she's stolen some 8 year old's Yamaha keyboard. Apart from that, not a bad album, although it's not really my bag.

next to the terrible portishead album this is one of the WORST ever albums I have heard this year. It has nothing going for it and that 4 mins track make sno sense at all... its just rubbish
Darras on May 1st, 2008
The first Madonna album that I like! It could be a tad bit more popish though
Simon, UK on April 30th, 2008
It's not her best album - she's done, and can so a lot better! I found it a little bit of a let down really. Average is the best way to describe this.
Chris, UK on April 30th, 2008
Best album she's done in 10 ten years, since Ray of Light! "Don't judge a book by its cover!" Thats to the album cover critics!

There's just something special about Madonna and Hard Candy is yet another piece in a long line of evidence that proves how she really is the Queen of pop. Just as instantly accessible and catchy as Confessions on a Dancefloor, Hard Candy is packed with future hits, practically ever track single worthy. The hip-hop beats are immense, thumping away in the background, relentless and impossible to resist as they command you to the dancefloor, perfectly complementing Madonna's voice, which is on top form on tracks like Miles Away and Heartbeat. Dreamy washes of trance-esque keyboard parts flow through the tracks. And what about the cover? All I can say is that Madonna looks absolutely great on it as she does in the video for brilliant first single 4 Minutes. This is Madonna for the modern age and the idea of Hard Candy is in many ways a metaphor for Madonna herself - the perfect combination of sugar and sweetness with that sharp little kick to remind you who's boss. In many ways Hard Candy recalls a lot of Madonna's past material and with a back catalogue as immense as hers it is intriguing to find all the touching points. The cheeky, playful attitude for example seems as if its straight out of her early 80s hits with the retro keyboard parts of Give It 2 Me recalling the old days perfectly but bringing them bang up to date - something Madonna has always been a master at. Whereas `Dance 2night' features lyrics from the `Confessions...' album and sounds like something straight out of a 70s disco. Like the whole album, its slick and utterly irresistible. Of course, the hip-hop/R&B flavours obviously hint back to her early 90s phase of the Erotica and Bedtime Stories albums, tracks like She's Not Me full of funky guitar and bass riffs, timeless in their quality, resplendent in a production gloss which runs throughout the album and testament to the skills of Timbaland & Pharrell. In terms of the album closest to Hard Candy though, I think it has to be Music - one of her seminal pieces. Hard Candy possesses the same invigoration, variety and spirit for enjoyment that made that album such a hit. It also has a freshness that I think will prove attractive for people who possibly haven't been fans of Madonna in the past - it's an openness both in the sound of the tracks but in Madonna's attitude - something to pull in new fans as well as appeasing old ones and I can't wait to see these tracks performed live. They have an energy to them that you just know will translate so well to the stage - it has to be said, Madonna sure knows how to put on a show. In terms of highlights, `Incredible' kicks into an epic keyboard riff halfway through the song and the `Sticky and sweet, my sugar is rawww' line in Candy Shop is just perfect in its portrayal of Madonna's quirky sense of humour. The other thing I really like about Hard Candy is that despite all its high-class production and synths it also comes across as one of Madonna's most organic sounding albums - something that developed grew and flourished from her ideas and that she really enjoyed making, also evident in the playful adlibs and collaborations. It's a cocktail of excitement and a melting point of musical ideas that come together as an extremely cohesive and consistent piece. Devil Wouldn't Recognize You is a beautiful song and combined with the haunting Voices makes for a perfect close to the album. It goes without saying that I'm going to be playing this album a lot over the coming weeks - without a doubt the best album of the year so far.

Hmmm... I'm not very impressed. Confessions On A Dancefloor wasn't great and this is probably worse. Everything on this album pales behind the brilliant '4 Minutes', with not one song even coming close. Sorry Madge, better luck next time.

Colin, Liverpool on April 30th, 2008
I like her collaboration with Timbaland and Justin , some of their songs are my least favorite including "4 minutes" which is catchy and nice untill the point it starts to repeat itself and annoy with all those horns. "Devil Wouldn't Roconize You" is a typical Justin T ballad just with Madonna's voice , it's a good song but it doesn't fit Madonna very well in my opinion."Give it 2 me" is catchy but not a favorite ,I was disappointed to hear it's the second single. "Heartbeat" ,"Spanish Lesson" & "Voices" are o.k too but they sound like fillers to me though "Spanish Lesson" would probably be great for a live performance. and now to the treats - My favorites are the the songs who have a little disco flavor in them like my most favorite "Beat Goes On" with Kanye West which is such a fun song "She's Not Me" and "Dance 2night" which is also with JT . Other favorites are : the teazing first track "Candy Shop", the ballad "Miles Away" which reminds me her "American Life" album and the catchy and different "Incredible". It's a fun album to listen while driving or working out and a nice follow up for "Confessions" , I can't wait for her next tour.

I was very worried when I first found out Madonna was going r'n'b. I loved Confessions...... and any subsequent albums would have a LOT to live up to. I bought this album first day of release and what to say but WOW! I don't like the first song at all though - its awful, but the other 11 are superb. 4 Minutes should have been track 01. My favourite songs are 'incredible' and 'The devil wouldn't recognize you'. On first listen i have to admit i didn't get it. However, after a couple of listens i'm now really into it. I think it was me just trying to get into Madonna's new idea / groove for this album..... Confessions was a bit like that, but how many millions did that sell? 11 or 12 million??????? I really hope this album becomes the biggst selling of the year, because its SO GOOD. I've listened to Kylie Minogue's new album, Britneys new album, Mariah's new album and Timbalands new album and none of them are as good as this. Attention People: GO BUY THIS ALBUM NOW- ITS FANTASTIC

One of her best. The tracks Miles Away and She's Not Me are perfect summer tunes.
Carli, Wycombe on April 30th, 2008
not her best but still very enjoyable - miles away is my standout
Alicia, Lincoln on April 30th, 2008
Just look at the front cover?! So she might look good for her age but..put it away woman. no1 wants to see that..
Kate, Tranmere on April 30th, 2008
Her best album since Ray Of Light, only one or two tracks aren't brilliant, but Candy Shop and Incredible are the best.
Ryan, Kent on April 30th, 2008
How much did they pay you for this review? 4 stars?! It's an awful album...and I love Madonna!
Mike, UK on April 30th, 2008
Progressive RnB Pop at its best. It also helps if you have listened to the album a few times before you review, as musically its one of madonnas most eclectic and experimental. If thats too much change for a narrow mind, well thats just Hard Candy. She aint gonna stop!
Nic, London on April 30th, 2008
I was really disappointed..why did she have to follow the RnB/Timbaland route, she is better than this. I wish she would go back to making dance tracks like on Ray Of Light
Dave, UK on April 30th, 2008
appalling!
