Madonna scores seventh US No.1 album

Madonna has scored the seventh US No.1 album of her career - 24 years after the first.

Her Hard Candy LP sold 280,000 copies in the States last week to zoom straight to the top of the Billboard 200.

The pop queen also topped the American charts with Like A Virgin (1984), True Blue (1986), Like A Prayer (1989), Music (2000), American Life (2003) and Confessions on a Dancefloor (2005).

Barbra Streisand, with eight No.1 albums to her name, is now the only female artist to have a better record on the US album chart.

Hard Candy also debuted at number one on this week's UK albums chart.
