Hercules & Love Affair: 'You Belong'

With a name that sounds like a Mills & Boon novel and ever-spiralling billows of hype surrounding their music, it would be easy to dismiss Hercules & Love Affair as a passing fad. The New York gang, led by DJ/producer Andrew Butler, have had ultra-cool critics spluttering with hyperbole since the turn of the year. But, sadly for those who love to see puffed up acts crash and burn, their new single is an absolute corker.

A heady mix of cowbells, drum machines and old-school house, 'You Belong' perfectly captures the spirit of classic dance music, but adds a contemporary twist with its squeaky clean production and lush vocals. While much of the band's self-titled debut LP has echoes of disco, 'You Belong' is actually more like an acid-rave track that's been switched down several BPMs and smothered in creamy pop goodness. A fabulous tune.
