Gary Glitter has been banned from the Philippines ahead of his release from prison in Vietnam.

The singer will be deported back to his native UK when he finishes a three-year jail sentence for committing obscene acts with two underage Vietnamese girls in August.

Metropolitan Police have sent reports on him to several foreign embassies in London in a bid to prevent him returning to Asia without notifying officers.

Philippines immigration chief Marcelino Libanan said the 64-year-old is not welcome in the country, revealing: "I have placed him on a blacklist. That is our first line of defence."

Glitter - real name Paul Gadd - has reportedly said he wants to start a new life in Hong Kong to avoid being placed on the UK's sex offenders' register.
