Bowie denies stage musical reports

David Bowie has called rumours of his songs featuring in a musical "absolute toss".

Tabloid rumours surfaced last week stating that the rock icon had granted director Peter Schaufuss permission to use his songs in a stage version of 1976 film The Man Who Fell To Earth.

"I have no idea who Peter Schaufuss is," Bowie wrote on his website.

Based on Walter Tevis's novel, The Man Who Fell To Earth starred Bowie as an alien who arrived on Earth searching for water to save his drought-ridden home planet.

Bowie's representatives said that no music had been licensed to Schaufuss and the production "appears to be utilising an unauthorised name and likeness of Mr. Bowie".

Their statement added: "We will seek injunctions, if necessary, to stop their use."
