Bryn Christopher: 'The Quest'

The name "Bryn" makes sense for a Welsh opera singer and the sexually-repressed uncle from Gavin and Stacey, but does it work for a popstar? It seems a bit unlikely at first, but once you hear the incredible voice of Bryn Christopher, a 22-year-old singer-songwriter from Birmingham, you'll probably want to change your mind.

Debut single 'The Quest' pitches him somewhere between Gnarls Barkley and Mark Ronson, but closer to the former than the latter - it's an eerily atmospheric combination of organs, horns and gospel backing vocals. It sounds pretty terrific as it's playing, but it's hard to shake the suspicion that behind the brilliantly dramatic production and Christopher's spine-tingling vocals lies a song that's, well, a little bit average.
