The I Am... side, which is supposed to contain the most revealing music of her career, consists entirely of ballads. It's just as one-paced as you'd expect, but thankfully not entirely devoid of variety: 'Disappear' is dream-like and folky, 'Halo' sounds like a muscular hybrid of 'Umbrella' and 'Bleeding Love' and there are hints of soft rock on 'That's Why You're Beautiful'. It's all very accomplished, but the trouble with I Am... is that it doesn't do what it's supposed to. Not unsurprisingly from a woman who won't even nod when asked whether she's married, these songs are as revealing as publicity photos. The most interesting lyrics appear on 'If I Were A Boy', the one song Beyoncé didn't write, and clichéd lines like "I found heaven on earth, you are my first, my last" are all too typical.
Though Beyoncé's obviously playing a character on the Sasha Fierce disc, this actually makes things more interesting. "Sasha" salutes her earning power on 'Diva', sings about how goddamn fabulous she is on 'Ego' and even exposes her kinky side on 'Videophone', telling her fella, "If you likin' this position, you can tape it." Her tunes, which cover the urban pop bases from swaggering hip-hop ('Diva') to Europoppy R&B ('Radio') to classic soul ('Ego'), are big on hooks but low on originality. It's telling that the best song here, a dark(ish) electropop track called 'Sweet Dreams', actually sounds like the cousin of Rihanna's 'Disturbia'.
So while there's plenty to admire about I Am... Sasha Fierce - the songs are universally well-crafted, Beyoncé's singing is better than ever - it's strangely underwhelming for a double album. It's hard to shake the feeling that, having tried something brave with the album's concept, Beyoncé is playing it safe with the music inside. If she wants to stay the "number one diva in the game", she's going to have to start taking a few more risks.

Couldn't agree less with this review, and bet the author is kicking themselves now! It is Beyonce's finest work, and places her as the best current female vocalist, and performer. It's a shame more ballads weren't released (such as disappear, my favourite track on the album), but that was most likely in fear of critics such as yourself! It was not even sung during her tour. Songs like 'Single Ladies' and 'Halo' have now become timeless instant classics. She also displays great variety in her presentation of the released tracks; it is almost unthinkable that the same artist who released 'If I Were A Boy' also created 'Video Phone'. All in all, my favourite album of 2009.

Overall a brilliant album. I love the majority of songs on the album and Beyoncé was outstanding on tour.

There are a couple of songs like Radio and Video Phone which I'm not massive fans of just because it doesn't sound anything like what we're used to with Beyonce. But everything else I love especially Halo, Broken - Hearted Girl, Sweet Dreams, Ave Maria, Smash Into You, Ego, Scared Of Lonely, I could go on...

I love this album, both sides has great tracks on them...standout ones for me are, Halo, Hello, Sweet Dreams, Ego, Ava Maria and Single Ladies...the others are just as good after a few listen's Scared of Lonely is becoming another favourite...I prefer this album to her last (B'day) and hope she releases Halo next

I feel this album is very sparse. Beyonce sounds very different to B'Day but I also feel tracks like single ladies and ave maria are travesties. If I were a boy is very empty and stereotypical and she's not very believable. Halo is by far the albums stand out with scared of lonely coming in behind it. Its not great, its not awful. i was given the choice of this or pink for my 11 year old nieces christmas gift. I chose the latter for originality

Beyonce proves she is the queen, tackling a different style of genres and completely making them her own. Smash into You is outstanding as is the next single, Halo. The songs are all potential top40 hits. And stop with the Rihanna comparisons, Beyonce is number one in the game. She has the vocal ability and stage presence. She doesn't have to re-invent herself with every song. Plus, Disturbia isn't remotely like Sweet Dreams...the latter is 10 times better.......

Diva is a tune and Halo but the most interesting song has to be scared and lonely. wouldve prepared it onto one cd switching cds when ur in the mood for upbeat then slow lol...B is rocking and can people stop comparing her to Rihanna! there's only room for one "Queen B"

I love the album. It took afew plays to get used to it becuse it's so different from her previous albums. The 'I Am..' disk is full of great ballads and she proves she has one of the best voices around. The 'Sasha Fierce' disk is full of up-tempo songs that appeal to everyone. Overall an excellent album!

Love the album. 'I am...' is the stronger side in my opinion. Standout tracks are Halo (outstanding!), Smash Into You, Sweet Dreams, and Scared of Lonely

Generally a good album, but had it of been 1 CD, with the best picked out, it'd have been a HUGE triumph. Sweet Dreams is indeed the standout track, and places Beyonce in pole position once again - let's just hope it's a single with a killer Freemasons mix!

Really like this album. My top five songs from the cd are Diva, Radio, Sweet Dreams, If I Were A Boy and Halo. This album is definetely worthy of 5 stars, but I love all three albums by Beyonce and would give em all 5 stars, but when it comes down to the best I have to say B'Day. I Am... Sasha Fierce is amazing, but B'Day had some really loud instrument songs with sick beats and was more fun, but they all are good too. Beyonce is currently taking a break but she will be working on her fourth studio album after her break its been confirmed. It will be released in 2010 according to wikipedia and i hope it will be a mix of Dangerously In Love, B'Day & I Am... Sasha Fierce. Im really looking forward to it Keep it up B!
