Pitbull: 'Planet Pit'

It's easy to criticise Pitbull for his cheap suits and cheesy album titles (see 2009's Rebelution), but credit where it's due; after repeating essentially the same trick for 11 years, six albums and 23 singles, he finally scored his first UK number one as the headliner this month with 'Give Me Everything'. In an age where reinvention is the cornerstone of a lengthy and successful music career, Cuba-born, Miami-raised Armando Perez has continued to spit rhymes about clubbing and picking up the ladies - even at the same time on occasion. Now with a chart-topper tucked firmly under his belt, is he ready to swap the dodgy attire for something a little sharper?

Not on your hot hermana's life, but with another impressive rosta of guest vocalists and knob-twiddling boffs on board, there are a few - albeit, minor - sparks of joy to be found here. While he continues to rely too heavily on his peers for the hooks, RedOne-helmed 'Rain Over Me' with veteran latin singer Marc Anthony is a step outside his usual robotic sound, and the laid-back 'Took My Love' featuring LMFAO's Red Foo and Eminem-eqsue ballad 'Castles in the Sand' assisted by Kelly Rowland offer a welcome stop-gap between the hectic, high-wired beats jammed in throughout. That said, Planet Pit for the most part remains the usual mix of headache-inducing house-hip-hop and sleazy chat-up lines - both of which will no doubt keep him attired in those cheap suits for years to come.
