Aptly titled The Singles, the disc contains 14 of their finest and, we might add, eye-poppingly brilliant string of releases. The scenic whistles and sultry vocals on their debut single 'Lovely Head' still effuses electronic elegance, while the rumbling bass and clap-inducing beats on 2005 hit 'Ooh La La' remains a (sophisticated) house party favourite.
The sense of dessertion behind folk-tinged 'A+E' remains one of the most understated and heart-breakingly poignant ballads in recent years. Meanwhile, criminally overlooked single 'Rocket' deals with vanquishing adultery over a backdrop of giant disco riffs, while love song 'Number 1' will remain the trendy choice for a first dance for years to come.
Even new cuts 'Yellow Halo' and 'Melancholy Sky' showcase the duo's abilities to evoke bittersweet sadness, with the latter delivering an tender vocal from Alison over a sombre brass section. The commercial successes of Goldfrapp's singles may differ considerably, but, crucially, the standard doesn't. For over a decade the duo have been writing consistently fantastic pop songs - and here is the proof.
