Razorlight @ Nottingham Arena, October 24

Having said that, the gig was pretty good. Whilst the Arena wasn't full, two thirds of the standing floor space was packed out with enthusiastic camera-phone wielding fans who took every opportunity to leap and sing along with frontman Johnny Borrell who, despite having had a blazing row with the drummer (according to my sources, ahem) previous to going on stage, let none of this show in his accomplished and professional set. It could have been a little longer, being as it was less than an hour and a half's show - but then many other artists limit their sets to a similar length, and since the promoter apparently pays £3,000 for each minute the music goes over the curfew of 11pm, I'm guessing this was part of the band's reasoning.
Borrell was dressed all in white, something not so easy to carry off unless you are, as he is, a skinny thing, and though there wasn't any banter with the crowd apart from a limp "hello, Nottingham!", he still managed to get the girls screaming - though personally, I don't see the attraction, he's too skinny, too arrogant and too argumentative for my tastes! Great voice, though, and his vocals rarely faltered during the course of last night, which, when you're the lead singer, can often be an exhausting and wearing experience.
All in all, it was an enjoyable evening, and despite the fact I'm not a rabid Razorlight fan, I still recognised quite a number of the songs. I danced, which is unusual for me if I'm not down the front of the gig, but I think this may have been down to the free wine, rather than the discovery of a new favourite band! Everyone around me seemed to be enjoying it a lot, so despite my somewhat faltering memories, it must have been pretty good!
