Electrovamp
Sassy Welsh sisters Electrovamp first caught our attention at the end of 2007 with their fabulous dancefloor anthem 'I Don't Like The Vibe In The VIP'. Now, having spent most of this year working on their debut album, Tally and Tammy are back with new single 'Drinks Taste Better When They're Free', which appears on the soundtrack to Simon Pegg comedy How To Lose Friends And Alienate People. We gave Tally a call to find out what the girls have been getting up to.

So, why do the 'Drinks Taste Better When They're Free'?
"The song is basically me and Tammy taking the mick out of guys who try to bribe us with drinks. They say, 'Do you want a drink?' We say 'OK!' and then we just walk off when they're expecting something afterwards."

Do you ever feel guilty when you walk away?
"Well, we do stay and chat to them for a bit - we don't just take the drink and run. We just don't give them anything at the end of the night... if you know what I mean!"

What's the best drink you've ever managed to wangle?
"We've had some champagne and stuff in the past. I think Tammy's favourite is Malibu and lemonade, so that's a tip for anyone out there!"

Do you prefer free drinks or cheesy chat-up lines?
"I suppose we can't get away if you buy us a drink! If someone did use a cheesy chat-up line, we'd be like, 'See you later!' One guy said to Tammy once, 'I like how you're put together'. We were like, 'What?!' I suppose it's a compliment, but it's a funny way of saying it."

Your debut album's got a concept behind it. How will that work?
"It's basically a soundtrack to the weekend. It starts off on a Friday night with our last single, 'I Don't Like The Vibe In The VIP', then we go through things that happen in the day. You know, stuff like arguments with our boyfriend about some lad we've been chatting to that day. It's all things that have actually happened to us."

Where would Electrovamp take DS if we visited Wales for the weekend?
"We'd probably take you out in Cardiff because it's quite lively there. We'd do a big pub crawl and then we'd go ice-skating. I know it's a bit random, but I've always really wanted to go ice-skating. Then on Sunday we'd round it off with a massive Sunday dinner! Mmmm."

How would you describe Electrovamp to people who haven't heard your music?
"Electro and energetic. It's lively, fun music that you can dance to - music that will make you really happy. Good singalong songs to wake you up in the morning."

A bit like a dirtier Girls Aloud?
"Yeah, I like that! Some people have compared us to the Cheeky Girls, but we're like 'No, No! We're the Naughty Girls not the Cheeky Girls!' It's an easy comparison because we're both sisters, but we're nothing like them."

We spoke to Tammy last year and she claimed she was the naughtier sister. What does that make you?
"I think I'm the bossy one! She's always saying, 'Stop bossing me around'. She needs to be told when to move otherwise she doesn't. I'm always the first out of bed while she always leaves it to the last possible minute."

'Drinks Taste Better When They're Free' is out now.
