How would you describe 'Hearts Don't Lie'?
"I can't believe I'm on the second single from the album - the first one seems to have flown by! This song has a modern disco sound and a BeeGees-inspired chorus. It's very groovy and definitely my favourite song on the album."
What's the best lie you've ever told?
"Well, once I had to wear this Marilyn Monroe wig for a game show in Australia, so I sent a picture of me wearing it to all my friends in England, and they really believed I'd dyed my hair platinum blonde and cut it really short. Normally I'm the worst liar though - my eyes always give me away!"
The video looks like it was a lot of fun to shoot.
"It was really fun! It was the best time I've ever had on a video shoot actually, because I got all my friends and family in it - my cousin from Australia plays the dark angel! It was actually shot at Brixton Academy, which people are always surprised to hear, but once you take down all the posters and clean the place up a bit, it's got a great Art Deco vibe that fits perfectly with the song."
What promo have you got lined up for the single?
"I've literally just come from a performance at the Australian Soap Awards the other day. It was huge - we had a string section, loads of acrobats on stage, dancers doing all this Cirque Du Soleil stuff and pyrotechnics. I was trying to stay away from it for fear of setting my hair on fire! I've got a couple of TV performances coming up here, so hopefully I can do a big performance again, but I guess something like that could only really be done on The X Factor."
'Hearts Don't Lie' was produced by Xenomania - do you enjoy working with them?
"I really like working with Brian [Higgins] because I think he brings out the best in me. On 'Hearts Don't Lie', the funny operatic vocal in the chorus started with me mucking around. He knows how to make my silliness good. Hopefully we can work together again - we did have a few tiffs, because when I'm recording I sulk, but I think it all turned out for the best in the end."
Have you started rehearsing for Leona Lewis's tour yet?
"We start rehearsals next week, but I've already got some proper Donna Summer moves ready! All I know so far is that the food's going to be vegan, and I'm not sure how I'm going to cope with that. I'm not a huge meat-eater, but I need it sometimes for energy! I'm really excited about it actually, because they're going to be the biggest venues I've done so far in the UK."
Have you decided on the next single yet?
"We haven't really thought about it yet, but there's definitely a 'Defender' vibe going on at the moment. I'd love to do a video for that song in a battlefield - nice and dramatic!"
So far your album's only climbed as high as number 28 on the UK charts - are you disappointed with that?
"I try not to get too caught up in that business, but I don't think the album's life is over yet. I've got lots of live performances booked in which definitely keeps me going. I feel positive that there is plenty more to come!"
Will you continue with this sound for your next album?
"I think I'll do something different next time - a country album is a possibility because I'm a massive Dolly Parton and Johnny Cash fan. I'm wearing all black today actually because Cash once said: 'You never know when you're going to your funeral!' I'm also a massive Enya fan, so a collaboration with her would be fun as well!"
