Were you pleased with your album's recent chart resurgence?
"It was mental! It had been hanging around the 20 mark in the charts and suddenly it was number five again - we couldn't believe it! Then we found out just after New Year's Day that it had gone platinum, which is unbelievable really. It made Christmas and New Year that little bit sweeter."
Congratulations on your Brit Awards nomination - how does it feel?
"Thanks very much! It's an absolute honour. When they told us we were up for Best British Single, we actually couldn't believe it. It's based on sales and then the winner is decided by the public - and our fans are amazing, so you never know! We were surprised to be up for one as we only launched as a band six months ago, and we never expected our first single to reach number one. Things seem to have taken off ever since. Hopefully next year we'll be up for two or three!"
You've been tweeting a lot recently about being in the studio recording new music...
"Yes, we've started work on our new album! The new single is ready and we're dead proud of it. It sort of goes back to the sound of 'All Time Low'. It's an uptempo track that I reckon could go down well in the clubs. It's got a little taste of trance in it but it sounds very much like us."
What's the new single called?
"I'll get in so much trouble if I say the title! It's two words though. We're not sure on the release date yet either. We want to work it around the tour and possibly some big TV stuff that's not confirmed yet. You'll hear it around April I think."
So you're not releasing any more singles from your current album?
"We're not, no. It's time to move on to the next one! There were a few tracks that we were keen to release, but now we've recorded our new single, we're excited to get something new out instead. I'll always love our first album though because it has a lot of good memories attached to it."
Who have you working with on the album?
"Once again we're working with Steve Mac, who wrote 'All Time Low' - he's an amazing songwriter. We'd like to see Guy Chambers again, and we're booked to write with all sorts of people from around the world. There's talk of Bruno Mars writing something for us too. We're trying to get the best we possibly can!"
You co-wrote some of the tracks on your debut. Are you penning more this time around?
"We've been writing over Christmas and pretty much every day this year. We want to get this album finished and ready for release as soon as possible. We're trying to be a bit more creative this time with the sound and lyrics. We want to step it up and make this album twice as good as the last one!"
Are any collaborations for the record in the pipeline?
"To be honest we've not been talking about collaborations recently - we were considering a few a while ago but I think we're holding off for the moment. We want to get a few of our own singles out first to prove ourselves as a band. We've done alright so far but we want to show people that we're here to stay. Working with Bruno Mars is a bit of a dream though, and I don't think we'd say no to a Rihanna or Drake collaboration!"
You've signed a record deal in the US, so when are you heading out there?
"We're heading over there this summer - when it's hot! To be honest we just want a good holiday! We're taking 'All Time Low' out there and seeing what we can do with it. The US hasn't had a boyband for ages, so hopefully they want one!"
How are preparations going for your upcoming tour?
"We haven't even started getting ready for it yet! We'll begin soon though because we need to get into shape. We've got a cool theme in mind, but I want to leave it as surprise for the fans. We're going to play some new material too, which I can't wait to do. It's going to be a hectic few months but I love that. I'd be out there promoting the band every day if I could!"
