What got you into DJing in the first place?
"A friend of mine was a DJ and I was a big fan of the whole DJing world and I was sick and a bedroom DJ and they asked me to stand in."

What is the most memorable experience you've ever had whilst DJing?
"Supporting U2, main stage at Glastonbury, playing at the Great Wall of China, NetAid, those kind of events."

Who are your influences?
"U2 for sure, I think it was really because I was given an opportunity to play with these huge acts and taking DJing outside of a nightclub."

Who is your favourite collaborator?
"I enjoyed working with Hunter S Thompson. "

Do you feel privileged in any way to have worked with him so soon before his death, to have been involved in the final bit of his life?
"No. I didn't think he should commit suicide so I don't see it like that."

Any plans for future collaborations?
"No, it's a bit too early as the album isn't out yet, so I'm not thinking too far ahead about the next record."

You own a record label - what kind of bands get signed to it?
"I do all the A&R for it. I just signed an electronic rock band called the Bad Apples. They're unsigned, and have never released a record. I just signed another artists called Spitfire."

Your debut artist album sold millions. Were you expecting it, on the back of your success DJing, or was this something you weren't expecting?
"No, I wasn't expecting it. I didn't expect it to do as well as it did, I was very happy with that."

Is there anyone you'd like to collaborate with?
"I just like working with interesting people and great artists, whether they're known or not. Working with some of these people was the ideal that I enjoyed."

You've been working on film scores, could you tell us about that?
"There's a couple I'm working on this year. A movie called Novel Sun, a movie called One Nine, that's what I'm working on at the moment."

Your website bio describes you as a composer. Do you see yourself more as a DJ or a composer or a bit of both?
"I am a bit of both. When you're in film you compose."

Where do you see yourself going in the future? Will you continue DJing or do other things?
"That's mainly it, film scoring."

You're going on tour soon? Are you looking forward to that?
"Yes. It's later in the year. I always enjoy that, if I'm not doing too much of it, it gets too tiring if you're doing loads."

What's on your iPod at the moment?
"I've been listening to a lot of score, doing a lot of research for an up and coming film that I'm scoring. The Constant Gardener, the new Prince album, the soundtracks of Crash, Mrs Henderson Presents and the compilation Sahara Nights. That's where I'm at at the moment."

Thanks for chatting, Paul!
