Nick Grimshaw, Jameela Jamil 'T4 Stars Of 2011' interview

By
Jameela Jamil and Nick Grimshaw
Back for a third year at London's Earls Court, T4's Stars of 2011 promises to be an energetic plethora of big and bright music performances, presenters dressing up in outrageous fancy dress costumes and the usual collection of reality stars undergoing embarrassing tasks.

This year sees the main event hosted by Nick Grimshaw and Jameela Jamil, so Digital Spy caught up with the fashionable duo to find out what we can expect come December 11.

Who are you most looking forward to seeing perform at the show?
Jameela: "For me, I think Wretch 32 and Professor Green are going to be my two favourite acts."
Grimmy: "Professor Green and Cher Lloyd. I'm a Cher Lloyd fan and I love her new song. I've been converted."

Are you going to make sure the audience will be nice to her?
Jameela: "I think they will. Even when she performed 'Swagger Jagger' at T4 On The Beach they were nice to her."

Earls Court is a huge venue - do you still get nervous hosting these big shows?
Jameela: "Of course! It's our first time hosting the main show."
Grimmy: "I don't really get nervous for things. I might get nervous just before it starts, but I won't get nervous in rehearsals."
Jameela: "I'll get nervous when I hear everyone screaming."
Grimmy: "I'd get more nervous about doing something little than hosting in there, because that's so surreal that your mind can't really fathom it. I find that easier to do than a DJ set somewhere where everybody is in to good music or something."

Are you worried about what they might have planned for you?
Jameela: "Terrified."
Grimmy: "They've done things in the past to make us look stupid. Jameela's had to wear a naked suit and I've had to dress up as a woman every other week on T4, so to actually embarrass us they're going to have to go quite far out of their way. They tell us really late - like three days before - so we can't back out."

Have there been any outfits throughout 2011 that you think they might get you to wear?
Grimmy: "I wonder if there's a Beyonce pregnant reveal suit."
Jameela: "Oh yeah, I bet they'll give that one to me. Or maybe GaGa as a man?"
Grimmy: "That'll be a good one. You could be GaGa as a man."
Jameela: "I think I'd look good as GaGa like a man. I could rock a beard!"
Grimmy: "I'd quite like me and Jameela to recreate the new Rihanna video."

Who has been your star of 2011?
Jameela: "Ed Sheeran. Just because he's this really sweet unassuming kind of kid, almost. He comes in with his guitar and little soft folk music and people go mad for him."
Grimmy: "My star is Joey Essex. I've become obsessed with him. I'd never watched TOWIE before this year and over the last couple of months I have been hooked on it. I really want to be his best friend - or probably not. After a day I'd probably be like: 'I can't explain things to you anymore!'"

Would you rock the little shorts?
Grimmy: "Those outfits are outrageous!"

2011 has been dominated by reality soaps like TOWIE, Made In Chelsea and Geordie Shore...
Jameela: "Yeah, we're team TOWIE! Although I think Geordie Shore has some of the best sound bites I've ever heard. For example one of the girls going, 'I should be prime minister. We've never had a prime minister before who likes to get pissed!' That should go on a T-shirt."

Both casts are going to be at the event; are you going to pit them against each other in some type of gameshow format?
Grimmy: "I imagine so. I'd like to see something physical like tug of war."
Jameela: "Or maybe a fake tan-off."

What has been your favourite moment in pop music throughout 2011?
Grimmy: "I think it's been good having a great boyband again - like One Direction. I ran an amnesty on my show where we asked adult men if they liked One Direction and most agreed that they are pretty good. So I think my pop moment of the year is 'What Makes You Beautiful' - I think it's brilliant."
Jameela: "Beyonce's 'Love On Top' performance where she revealed she was pregnant is mine."
Grimmy: "Yeah, that beats One Direction!"

Did either of you manage to catch Beyonce's Glastonbury slot?
Grimmy: "Yeah, I was there."
Jameela: "Yeah, I caught it too. It was amazing."
Grimmy: "She was incredible and I thought initially that it would be kind of weird having her there, but then I thought she was the best thing I've ever seen in that headline slot. It really worked for Sunday at Glastonbury and she put in a good effort - more so than she may have done somewhere else."
Jameela: "It felt like she felt it was a big deal and that made me feel really proud to be British."

Who would be your dream act for T4's Stars of 2011 concert?
Grimmy: "I'd like to see Beyonce there."
Jamella: "Yeah, Beyonce."
Grimmy: "She's like no-one else. I've been to see Beyonce, GaGa, Britney and Rihanna and she's just so much better than anyone else. She's just so effortless."
Jameela: "What else has she got to do, really? She's going to be so bored at home watching Loose Women all pregnant. She should come work off those baby bumps at T4!"

Tickets for T4 Stars of 2011 are on sale now.

Jessie J, Professor Green, Wretch 32, Pixie Lott, Example, Dappy, Ed Sheeran, The Wanted, Cher Lloyd, Rizzle Kicks and Tinchy Stryder are among this year's performers.
