Booty Luv: Cherise & Nadia

Phoenixes rising from the ashes of Big Brovaz, the Booty Luv girls have been responsible for several of the year's most irresistible dancefloor moments. In fact, it was Nadia and Cherise who managed to find a place, yeah, where we could boogie. (After Tweet had pointed them in the right direction, of course.) With 2007 drawing to a close, we gave them a call for a lovely bit of musical reminiscence. Who's their hero of the year? And their villain? What do they think of the Spice Girls reunion? Read on to find out.

What's been your musical highlight of 2007?

Cherise: "I think it would have to be releasing an album. We didn't realise how much hard work we'd put into it until we saw the finished product. All the blood, sweat and tears - the emotional ride that we went through - was worth it when we got the album in our hands."

Nadia: "For me, the thing that stands out is doing our live gigs. We've had such a good reception. It's hard for a dance act to have a live band and pull it off, but we managed it. We just played a gig in Russia, actually."

How did it go?

N: "The gig went well, but it was horrible and cold and I lost one of my bags - it's still in Dusseldorf actually. It's a good job that I had all my makeup and clothes for the gig in my other bag, actually. It's quite depressing over there because everyone just looks mean and moody. The general public just look like old, miserable farts, really."

What's your favourite song of the year?

C: "Well, 'Real Girl' by Mutya Buena was really good, and I like everything that the Sugababes and Girls Aloud have done too."

Do you like the new Sugababes lineup as much as the Mutya-era lineup?

C: "They're all cool - they're all quite headstrong girls and they know what they want. I think they're as good as they were before, and Amelle's got a really good voice."

Who's your musical hero of 2007?

C: "I reckon it has to be Kylie, just because she's managed to bounce back after everything she's been through. She's shown that she's such a strong woman - a lot of people look up to her right now."

N: "For me, even after all the problems she's had, it would have to be Amy Winehouse."

Do you think she can turn things around next year?

N: "She bloody better! I've been reading lots of stuff about her - apparently she hasn't been turning up for video shoots and stuff. That's really bad because she could lose fans because of it. I think she needs to appreciate the people who are still buying her records in spite of all her problems."

And who's your musical villain of the year?

N: "I'm not sure if they've been around this year, but it would have to be the Cheeky Girls. They're probably nice as people, but, in terms of music, puh-lease!"

They've got a new single coming out the same day as yours, actually.

N: "Nooooooo! Don't do this to me! I don't know if I can go on after you've told me that! It's not fair to the real talent out there that they exist, you know. I will give them one thing - they've got nice little bodies. They've got the look that people like."

Are you excited about the Spice Girls reunion?

C: "I really liked all the stuff they did back in the day, but I think they've shattered the illusion now because we know what they've got back together for. It's not for the Spice Girls - it's for money. It makes me feel a bit disappointed, especially as we're out here doing what we do for the love of the music, not just because of the money."

N: "We all know they're not going to stay together, and half of them probably aren't even talking to each other right now. They're just doing it to get a few million quid . I'd do it - if someone offered me £5 million to make some music with someone I hate, I'd be up for it. I think their tour will be good and I can see why people are excited about it. They were a really exciting act back in the day."

Have they still got the old chemistry, do you think?

C: "No. They've got no chemistry, you can see it. I was watching their new video the other day, and it was really weird because they're all grown up women with children now, and yet they're all doing the same trademark moves. If you saw a silhouette of any of them, you could guess exactly which one it was."

What have Booty Luv got planned for 2008?

C: "We're going out to Japan in January - I can't wait for the shopping! We've got another album in the pipeline that we're really excited about. Hopefully this time it won't be half covers and half originals; it'll be all originals. We're talking about it now."

Well, you've written the new single 'Some Kinda Rush' yourselves, so perhaps that will help to convince people?

C: "Exactly. If this does well, people will realise that we can write really good, original dance music."

Booty Luv release their new single 'Some Kinda Rush' on December 24. The album Boogie 2 Nite is out now.
