Kings of Leon: 'We have taken a stand'

Kings of Leon have revealed that they "take a stand" against George Bush on their new album.

The Nashville rockers said they did not previously feel they had enough experience to tackle political issues with their music.

However, singer Caleb Followill insisted that his band did not want to write about political issues simply to boost their careers.

He told Xfm: "The older you get, the more you realise that you have to take a stand and have to believe in something and I think we're on the right path. I just think we're a little more political at this point."

He continued: "For a while it was the cool thing for American bands to do. A lot of people revived their careers that way.

"We let that pass over and now we can actually write or sing about something if we have a belief about it and we're doing it on our terms and not because it's the cool thing to do."

When asked what political issues the group touched on, the frontman commented: "Truth is Bush is still in there, the war is still going on."

Kings of Leon's fourth album Only By The Night is released on September 22.
