Speaking to the crowd during the band's headlining set at the weekend, frontman Richard Ashcroft claimed that Eavis's daughter Emily had gone against her father's wishes by booking them.
"I hope her dad realises why she booked us now," Ashcroft said. "I think he was a bit worried we wouldn't be as good as Keane or something."
However, Emily told the BBC that Ashcroft's comments were "not true at all". She added: "We've liked The Verve for ages and we were really pleased to have them on."
Eavis also said that she was confused by the singer's reference to Keane, explaining: "I'm not sure where the Keane thing came from because Keane were never an option this year."
The group will release Forth, their first album since 1997, in August.
