Young responds to T In The Park criticism

Will Young has hit back at claims that he should not have been chosen to perform at T In The Park.

The singer will perform tracks from his forthcoming fourth studio album in the Pet Sounds Arena at the Scottish festival today. His inclusion on the bill has caused controversy, with some critics insisting that Will is not credible enough for the event.

"Everyone is entitled to their opinion. If people want to come and see me, fine. If they don't, they won't," Young told the Daily Record. "I don't think I am the only pop act at T in the Park.

"It's not all rock and indie acts. Kate Nash is on and she's not indie or rock. I wouldn't say Amy Winehouse, Amy Macdonald or Sharleen Spiteri are indie rock. I don't understand. If I was the only pop act, and by all accounts I'm not, I might understand."

He added: "We are doing quite a few of the new songs which went down really well at Glastonbury. That weekend proved I can stand up and do a great show with great material."

Young's new album Let It Go will be released in September.
