Ford, who played drums on The Last Shadow Puppets' debut album, will helm the Sheffield band's follow-up to 2007's Favourite Worst Nightmare.
Speaking about the project with the Daily Star, Ford said: "It's too early to say what sort of direction they'll go in next .
"But they've got at least one tune up their sleeves that sounds massive already.
"It's much more psychedelic than the first album (2006's Whatever People Say I Am, That's What I'm Not). I wouldn't rule out a bit of R&B either - the boys know their stuff."
Ford is a member of Simian Mobile Disco and has previously produced records for Klaxons, Mystery Jets and Test Icicles.
