The band, who headlined at Glastonbury and T In The Park, have pulled out because lead singer Richard Ashcroft is suffering from severe pharyngitis and a chest infection.
Ashcroft's group were scheduled to appear on July 16 at the Italia Wave Festival in Livorno. Other acts playing the bash include Chemical Brothers, Gnarls Barkley, The Ting Tings and The Wombats.
In a statement, the Wigan rockers said: "The Verve wish to apologise to any fans who have bought tickets and hope to be playing again soon."
The group headline this year's V Festival on August 16 and 17. They also have dates in Barcelona, Madrid, Tokyo and Osaka scheduled for later this month.
The 'Bittersweet Symphony' band release their fourth studio album Forth on August 25.
