The rocker entered rehab earlier this month after his family urged him to get help. They feared for his wellbeing after he unexpectedly fled to Ireland with Russian bargirl Ekaterina Ivanova.
In a phone call to his bandmate Mick Jagger, who celebrated his 65th birthday yesterday, Wood promised to get the group on the road again "before 2010".
"He wants to get better for his family - but also for the band," a source told The People. "They want to keep touring as long as they physically can and Ronnie doesn't want to let the others down.
"He is doing really well in rehab and everyone close to him hopes he will make a full recovery and quit drinking once and for all. Mick has been really supportive and is delighted Ronnie has finally seen sense."
