Drummer Johnny Quinn told the Belfast Telegraph that their new CD would be titled One Hundred Million Suns.
The Dundee rockers, whose last LP was 2006's Eyes Open, hope to release the record in October.
"We recorded the album at Grouse Lodge Studios in Ireland and the same studios in Berlin [Hansa] where U2 recorded Achtung Baby," said Quinn.
"It's still very much melody-based, but it's different too in ways from the other albums.
"It's hard to know what everyone will make of it but we're happy. I'd go as far as to say I think it's our best album yet."
The group confirmed they would be playing "a big gig for everyone" in 2009 and said they were also planning a small tour before the end of the year.
