U2 have warned fans not to purchase tickets advertising any of their upcoming live shows because they are fake.

A statement from the Irish rock band said: "There are no tour dates for the band at the moment, so please don't buy tickets for U2 shows you see advertised."

Last year, the group was rumoured to be taking up residency at the O2 Arena for a series of shows in support of their upcoming LP, though the reports were swiftly quashed.

U2's twelfth studio album, their first since 2004's How To Dismantle An Atomic Bomb, is expected to be released later this year.
