Speaking to the BBC, frontman Ricky Wilson said record companies are too focused on marketing indie acts using gimmicks.
"Indie bands are big, so a lot of record companies are pushing them and going, 'We've got one and they dress in vests'," he said.
"It's very, very boring," noted drummer Nick Hodgson.
Refusing to name any specific bands, Wilson added: "We're not going to point fingers or name names, but we've noticed that [other groups] didn't seem to be enjoying themselves on their new records, they seemed to be going through the motions."
The Leeds band yesterday announced that their new album, which features collaborations with Lily Allen and New Young Pony Club, will be titled Off With Their Heads.
