Hawkins left glam rock revival band The Darkness two years ago to fight addictions to cocaine and alcohol.
Hot Leg, who are embarking on a small tour of the UK, appeared at Proud Galleries in Camden last night.
Addressing the crowd, Hawkins admitted that he had suffered a "breakdown" after quitting The Darkness.
"It's the first time I've done a proper music concert in a couple of years," he said. "I think in the time since then I've suffered what you might call a breakdown."
Hawkins closed the show with a cover of his former band's hit 'I Believe In A Thing Called Love'.
