Madonna Milestones: Madonna snogs Britney

August 29, 2003: Madonna indulged in a steamy on-stage kiss with Britney Spears at the 20th MTV Video Music Awards last night.

The 45-year-old singer, who also snogged Christina Aguilera, stunned the celebrity-filled Radio City Music Hall in New York.

Earlier, Spears and Aguilera had emerged from a giant wedding cake, dressed in gowns and knee-length white boots.

The duo tore off their dresses and performed Madonna's hit 'Like A Virgin'. Madonna then joined the pair, wearing a top hat, tails and black boots.

For the finale, Madonna ripped off Aguilera's garter and French-kissed Britney.

In the audience were Madonna's husband Guy Ritchie and Spears's former lover Justin Timberlake.

Commenting on the performance, an MTV spokesperson said: "It was sensational, but I wonder what the good folk in places like Provo, Utah state would make of it. Middle America is not gonna let this one go lightly."

Comedian Chris Rock, who hosted the bash, commented: "That kiss was good, but where was mine?"

Awards went to Coldplay, Beyoncé Knowles, Eminem, 50 Cent, Justin Timberlake and Missy Elliott. Duran Duran received the Lifetime Achievement gong.
