Paul Smith's rockers claimed that the former Beach Boys star would be the ideal person to helm their latest record.
"We've nearly finished writing our new album," Smith told the Daily Star.
"We're off on tour this week, so when we get back we'll attempt to find a producer and a studio. We'd like to push some sonic boundaries.
"Maybe Brian Wilson's free."
He added: "I don't know what kind of music you’d call it. The songs were intended to be high-calibre pop, that's all I know."
The follow-up to 2007's Our Earthly Pleasures is expected in early 2009.
