The frontman was allegedly playing songs from the Irish group's new album, rumoured to be titled No Line On The Horizon, to friends at his villa in France when a holidaymaker recorded the tracks and subsequently posted them on video sharing website YouTube.
The sound from the videos was later removed.
U2's 12th studio album is expected to be released late this year and contain the tracks 'For Your Love', 'Love Is All We Have Left', 'Moment Of Surrender' and 'The Cedars Of Lebanon'.
