The singer will follow her role as Etta James in Cadillac Records with a part in upcoming thriller Obsessed.
Talking about her move into acting, she told Marie Claire: "I'm over being a popstar. I don't wanna be a hot girl. I wanna be iconic. And I feel like I've accomplished a lot. I feel like I'm highly respected, which is more important than any award or any amount of records.
"And I feel like there comes a point when being a popstar is not enough."
Knowles, who will perform at tonight's Fashion Rocks event in New York, also commented on her feelings of invincibility on stage, where she takes on the persona of alter ego Sasha.
She said: "I have out-of-body experiences. If I cut my leg, if I fall, I don't even feel it. I'm so fearless, I'm not aware of my face or my body."
