The frontman said "it feels like it's time" for the Las Vegas group to knock U2 from the top of the rock 'n' roll "pedestal".
He is quoted as saying: "[We can replace U2 on the] pedestal. They're getting old. You know there's going to be a couple of songs on [their] new record you're just going to love. But there's gotta be... I dunno. It feels like it's time."
The Killers's third studio album Day And Age will be released on November 24. It includes forthcoming single 'Human,' along with the tracks 'Spaceman', 'Losing Touch' and 'Joyride'.
