Damon Albarn and Jamie Hewlett said that they are ready to make another record under the guise of the cartoon group, adding that label EMI was delighted with their decision.
The news marks a U-turn from last year, when Albarn insisted that there would not be another studio album from the fictional band.
The singer told CBC News that he and Hewlett have experienced a change of heart.
"We came back from summer holidays and realised we could do exactly what we wanted to do with Gorillaz. Essentially, Jamie just had to agree to draw the characters again. Because I just do what I do anyway," he said.
Hewlett revealed that he has found a way to keep the characters fresh, saying he has "a new angle" and will "adapt them".
