Michael C Luckman, director of the New York Centre For Extraterrestrial Research, said Williams began penning tunes after visiting Washington's Trout Lake.
"Trout Lake is America's number one UFO hotspot," he told Bang Showbiz. "If there is any place on Earth where humans are likely to have open contact with an extraterrestrial civilisation, it is there.
"What better person to roll out the welcome mat than Robbie Williams, one of the most recognisable and beloved performers on the planet?"
He continued: "Robbie took the opportunity to write several new songs about aliens. I wouldn't be surprised if he was planning an alien album."
Williams's last album was 2006's Rudebox. He is expected to release new material in 2009.
